DRIVE TOWARD A CURE’S 5th MULTI-DAY ADVENTURE HEADS TO THE NORTHEAST

Scenic Fall Foliage Driving Tour Will Celebrate Motorsport Legend Sam Posey

Experience the vibrant colors of the Appalachian Autumn like never before with the Drive Toward a Cure® Northeast Adventure, October 10-13, 2024, an all-inclusive, four-day, three-night scenic tour, with access to private car collections, legendary tracks and luxury accommodations, as well as picturesque curated drives along the beautiful backgrounds of NJ, NY, CT and VT – with every mile supporting Parkinson’s disease.

A special luncheon, Thursday, October 10th will celebrate Motorsports Hall of Fame inductee Sam Posey at his home track, Lime Rock Park. Sam joins some of the most prestigious legends of motorsports who also are champions of Parkinson’s – following his own 1995 diagnosis. Sam competed in the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans 10 times, achieving a remarkable 3rd place finish in 1971 driving a Ferrari 512M, and solidifying his status as a top endurance racer of his era.

Co-drivers Paul Newman and Sam Posey, in 1980, drove at both Atlanta and Elkhart Lake, and also shared their home track – Lime Rock Park – where Drive Toward a Cure® will be celebrating Sam’s legacy as a legend of motorsports and champion of Parkinson’s.

Ready to elevate your driving skills? Join Drive Toward a Cure’s exclusive Land Rover Experience as an optional part of the October 10-13, 2024 Northeast Adventure and tackle the most extreme terrains with confidence!

Kick-off an all-inclusive, four-day, three-night scenic Northeast Adventure with Drive Toward a Cure®, October 10-13, 2024, beginning with an intimate viewing of a private collection on the grounds of a restored 19th century New Jersey farmhouse leading into a 4-state curated driving tour during the height of fall foliage.

LAKEVILLE, CTAugust 13, 2024 – Non-profit foundation Drive Toward a Cure® takes its penchant for Cars and Camaraderie® to enjoy an Appalachian Autumn during its all-new Northeast Adventure multi-day scenic journey October 10-13, 2024. The all-inclusive 4-day/3-night program will not only start by providing guests with an intimate viewing of a private collection on the grounds of a restored 19th century farmhouse, but goes on a spectacular curated driving excursion that encompasses breathtaking views during the height of the fall foliage season. A special luncheon celebrating Motorsports Hall of Fame inductee Sam Posey will be a highlight during an afternoon with Sam that includes autocross at his home track, Lime Rock Park.

While his racing career found Sam competing worldwide with and against a seemingly endless list of greats including Mario Andretti, Mark Donohue, and Roger Penske, his love for motorsport has roots in the Connecticut area where he was raised, and primarily at Lime Rock Park. Sam went on to compete in Trans-Am, Champ Cars, NASCAR, and even Formula 1. He had podium finishes that included Le Mans. Beyond his fabled motorsports involvement, Sam is also an author, designer and artist. He’s as much the focus of our attention this October for his connection to cars as he is as a Parkinson’s warrior, having been diagnosed in 1995.

Drive Toward a Cure will be opening up registration to join their very special lunch honoring Sam Posey to a limited number of guests above and beyond those registered for the full Northeast Adventure. Visit drivetowardacure.org/northeast for additional details.

“We’ve been so fortunate to gain the trust and involvement of enthusiasts and the automotive community at large in supporting Parkinson’s disease,” said Deb Pollack, founder of Drive Toward a Cure. “However, our biggest inspiration came from the friendships we’ve formed with legends of motorsports who happen to also be champions of Parkinson’s – beginning with F1 Champion Phil Hill and leading up to Sam Posey.”

Since 2016, Drive Toward a Cure has utilized driving experiences (ranging from multi-day drives to one-day events, BBQs, museum/garage tours and on-track events) to provide awareness and raise funds to support those living with Parkinson’s disease. Previous ‘Adventures’ have provided unmatched scenic beauty throughout California and the picturesque southern trails of the Blueridge Mountains and the Tail of the Dragon. Each multi-day program is all-inclusive within legendary locations, offering exclusive access to private collections and experiences, while featuring luxury accommodations and gourmet meals. The camaraderie of like-minded enthusiasts creates memorable moments on the open road and throughout the journey.

This year’s Northeast Adventure will explore the beauty of New Jersey, New York, Connecticut and Vermont in the peak of autumn, and include the ability to elevate one’s driving skills in an off-road capacity as well, with limited spots for inclusion in our Land Rover Experience. Visit drivetowardacure.org/northeast for a full itinerary and registration. All cars are welcome and the entry fee includes one car, two guests, all inclusive meals and luxury accommodations, along with a tax receipt as a portion of the fees will be benefitting Parkinson’s disease.

About Drive Toward a Cure:

National non-profit Foundation Drive Toward a Cure raises funds and awareness for Parkinson’s Disease research AND patient care by expanding our message throughout the automotive community at large. Since 2016, Drive Toward a Cure has raised more than one million dollars to support BOTH research AND patient care.

Drive Toward a Cure is a 501(c)(3) non-profit foundation supporting beneficiaries including The Michael J. Fox Foundation, the Parkinson’s Foundation, and numerous regional Centers of Excellence for Parkinson’s. Grants and scholarships are provided through Drive Toward a Cure’s ‘Access to Care’ and ‘Special Assistance’ grant funds, created to support challenged individuals and specific directive programs. About Parkinson’s Disease:

Affecting nearly one million Americans and 10 million worldwide, Parkinson’s disease is the second-most common neurodegenerative disease after Alzheimer’s and is the 14th-leading cause of death in the United States. The degeneration of dopamine-producing nerve cells can cause abnormal brain activity, leading to tremors, stiffness, rigidity, and impaired movement, as well as non-motor symptoms (e.g., depression and anxiety). There is no cure for Parkinson’s and 90,000 new cases are diagnosed each year in the United States alone, with 20 percent of those attributed to new cases of Young Onset Parkinson’s, (YOPD) afflicting patients 50 years-old and younger.
